Bruising, scars, stitches, and other physical blemishes in your injury case

Your body and your health are your greatest investments. You may have seen advertisements and videos explaining how exercise, foods, and even skincare products can maintain your physical appearance. But what happens when you have bruising, scars, and stitches after an injury?

Bruises, scars, and stitches can be hard to ignore. They are often hard or even impossible to hide. They can be embarrassing if they are very noticeable to others and may be permanent no matter what we do to try and get rid of them. In an injury case, these “blemishes” can have a huge impact as they provide the insurance companies with an idea of what you have endured. Unlike the neck pain, back pain, or headaches you experience, these blemishes are physically noticeable to you and others. It tells a story of your injuries and how severe they are.

What should I do if I have bruising, scars, stitches, or other physical blemishes after an injury?

  1. See a doctor right away. This may seem obvious, but sometimes these blemishes may be telling a bigger story. Your body may be telling you that there are possible infections or even internal bleeding. The only way to confirm your health is to seek immediate medical care.

  1. Take photographs. Photographs give the insurance companies a better perspective of what you have endured. You should take photographs immediately after an accident to document the severity of your injuries. You should also take photographs periodically if the bruising, scars, and stitches are still present. Nothing tells a better story than something that is physically noticeable.

  1. Follow up with your doctor. These blemishes may disappear over time. However, they may be permanent depending on the severity of your injuries. You may also need ongoing care or treatment for these blemishes. The only way to confirm is to follow-up with your doctors so they can properly advise you.

Bruises, scars, stitches, and other noticeable blemishes are hard to ignore. However, they can have a huge impact on your injury case.
